Saturday, 4/15/06: Catfish out the Ying Yang...

Headed out to a new "mystery lake" off Hwy 38 at John's friend Jack's suggestion. We were told it produced 5 and 6 pounders last year consistently... As we approached the exit to a lake we had been skunked at only two weeks before, there was a collective sigh of relief in the other two chase vehicles as we passed by the exit. But wait! They're turning around... Doh! We were going to the same lake and not to a new mystery hotspot. Damn it!

Needless to say, we really didn't catch anything. Ron pulled in two baby bass on a spinnerbait as if to say, "well, at least we know there are some bass in here."

That said, we moved off to a pay lake near Yongin and proceeded to tear them up. We collectively caught about 30 bass, two regular carp, one Hyeong-oh carp (scaleless), a couple of bream, and about 15 catfish.

We bait-fished and lure-fished, and I must admit, Ron had the magic touch as he caught the most... sometimes reeling in two at a time, and sometimes reeling in mixed species on one line.

Considering how hungover I was from the the night before, I'm surprised I was there at all, but I'm sure glad I didn't blow it off. In fact, I gave Ron so much crap about being a non-commital fisherman Friday night that he left a honey in bed at the hotel and showed up just to prove me wrong. I'm sure he doesn't regret it.

Pics to follow.

Gar,
greetings from illinois!!
i have been scouring the net to find fishing info on korea an behold
i have found your blog site. hallelujah!!
let me introduce myself:
i am Capt David Dennison (code name hunterdave). I am an Air Force
dentist about to be stationed at Osan (arriving late Aug). This will be
my third time stationed in Korea (Taegu-1990; Osan-1995).
This time I will be there 2-3 years and I am interested in places to
fish and people to fish with. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about
the bass population in Korea.
Although here we mostly seek out catfish and carp, I am up for
pursuing any type of swimming creature and love to chunk a lure from time to
time.
I was wondering if you or anyone else here could give me the lowdown on fishing in Korea,
public access, species available, quality of fishing, fresh and
saltwater opportunities, paylakes,etc.
Looks like you guys are making the best of your experience over there
and I am interested in doing the same.
I would like to keep in touch and later possibly go over equipment to
bring, buy, purchase locally, etc.
please e-mail me at drdennison05@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance,
hunterdave

at least he will be able to have a car. not being able to drive in this country (b/c of my rank) really sucks. getting to the lake is 98% of the battle for me. Oh well, 30 more days in this hole.
supposedly I will be hitting Gosam this weekend, but Im not holding my breath.
